Rengkai: At least ten people have been ‘detained’ by a rebel group at an undisclosed location in Churachandpur district of Manipur for allegedly “worshiping Satan”.

“Around10 people including young boys and girls were detained by a rebel outfit at Rengkai village under Churachandpur police station. Efforts are on to reach an understanding with the ‘misguiged’ youths,”  a reliable source said on condition of anonymity.

The ‘satan worshippers” had allegedly congregated at Rengkai cemetery at night two days back to perform their rituals, the source added. The “detained” persons belong to the Chin-Kuki-Mizo community. Reports received from another source said that the group had also performed rituals at Lower Lamka on the Tuithrapui river bank.

A ‘night curfew’ has been ordered by the said rebel outfit in Rengkai from 7.00 p.m since the

incident in this pre-dominantly Christian inhabited area.

“Some women groups also organised prayer meetings near the trees in which the alleged Satanic symbols were craved,” the source added, refusing to name the group. The symbols have been removed by the locals.

Some pastors have also gone on record stating that “war has been unleashed in our doorsteps” while others who have seen the symbols brushed aside the issue saying it “resembles some heavy rock metal symbols”.

In the light of the incident, a legal expert said: “India is a free country and people should not take law into their own hands. Even if a  person breaks a law he or she should be handed over to the police.” In this case, there is no legal sanction to prosecute or detain a person who performs and follows his or her faith, he added.

Quite a disturbing article. And it would be great if we can know the name of this rebel group.

I'm a Christian but I am all out against taking the law in our own hands in the name of Christianity. Such religious fervor disgusts me. So many atrocities down history, like the infamous witch hunts, the inquisition, slavery (curse of Ham), jailing or stoning to death anyone who said the earth isn't flat etc have all been committed in the name of Christianity.

India is indeed a free country, and since when did Satanism become a crime? Even in the US, Satanism is a legal religion and mainstream satanist groups are not associated with SRA (Satanic Ritual Abuse) which is a crime, and not Satanism itself.

Are these people desecrating the Bible or the Church? Are they abducting children? Are they sacrificing people to Satan? Are they violent and harming people physically? These are all crimes punishable by the law of the land, but merely carving Satanic symbols and performing rituals (what kind of rituals, is not given clearly in this article) have no grounds for abduction.

I am not defending the acts of these so called Satanists. I am merely defending the honor of my religion – Christianity. Please do not stain it.

Who has given them the right to arrest or detain them???? This is almost equivalent to kidnapping and FORCED CONVERSION.

I hope the district administration take action against the militant group or those instigating the detainment of the young men. I'm a Christian, and i'm shamed by this barbaric act of un-Chritian people. Where are the human rights organisations?????

  • Hminga says:

We should care the souls of our brothers and sisters (satanic). We should not snub their souls just for the sake of their religious liberty. To kidnap and give proper lesson is quite better than the lost of their souls. What will you feel if your brother or sister get 'infected' to satanism? Will you watch the perishing soul just for the sake of religious freedom? The term of constitutional liberty is one's life time on this earth but the fate of our soul will last eternity.

    Typical Christian witch hunt.

The rebel group and their AK-47s will never solve the issue. This ai’nt a physical warfare, it is a Spiritual Warfare. Our enemies are not flesh and blood, but the Evil Spirits hovering over our land.
