Mizoram education reforms panel submits report

AIZAWL: The Mizoram Education Reforms Commission today submitted its Report to the Chief Minister Pu Lal Thanhawla at a function held in the I&PR Auditorium on July 30.
The Report submission function chaired by the Education Minister Pu Lalsawta was attended by ten members of the Commission, the Speaker & Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, a number of the Council of Ministers & Parliamentary Secretaries, the Chief Secretary and other important Government officials.
Lauding the efforts of the Commission, the Chief Minister Pu Lal Thanhawla thanked the Chairman of the Commission Prof. A. K. Sharma and his team of 10 members for finishing the task of preparing a comprehensive report for education reforms in Mizoram in eleven months. He expressed hope that the Report, which is the first of its kind in the country will be a bench mark as no other state in India has ventured to set up an Education Reforms Commission to review the Education System in their states and hence copies of the Report would be presented to the Prime Minister and the UPA Chairperson, he added.
Reiterating that the Government is committed to reforming of education in the state, the Chief Minsiter said that the work of the Commission if properly administered and strictly followed can tranform the educational scenario of Mizoram for the better. He added that education is the best investment for the State and its society within and that no price is too heavy to pay for a child’s education.
The Education Minister Pu Lalsawta said that with the submission of the Report the Government can now consider reforming education in Mizoram so that the people can obtain affordable quality education.
The Chairman of the Commission, Prof. A.K. Sharma highlighted that a wide spectrum of issues such as quality of education in relation to academic achievement of students and performance level of schools, drastic reduction of school dropout, development of skills for wage and self-employment through vocationalization of education, rejuvenating curriculum reform process, language development, education in universal human values, overhauling the system of governance have been reflected in the Report of the Commission.
Mizoram Education Reforms Commission was set up by the Government on 9th June 2009 with eminent national and state educationists as members to recommend ways and means to raise standards of education and improve its quality covering all sectors of education right from the pre-school level to higher and professional education. The Report has 15 Chapters and a set of 116 Recommendations. The Commission has Prof. A. K. Sharma as Chairman, Prof. S. Homchaudhuri as Member Secretary, Prof. Ved Prakash, Vice Chairman University Grants Commission(UGC), Prof. G. L. Arora, Dr. L.N. Tluanga, Rev. Dr. K. Thanzauva, Rev. Chuauthuama, Prof A.N. Rai, Vice Chancellor Mizoram University, Pu K. Riachho, Pi Esther Lalruatkimi and Dr. Lalrindiki Fanai as members.
