Manipur tribal forum tells Ibobi to quit
IMPHAL: Angry over the Manipur government’s “failure” to check the attacks on tribal-area bound buses, Manipur Tribal Forum has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Ibobi Singh.
The Tribal People Forum, Manipur (TPFM) “strongly” condemned the “systematically planned” violence attacked and vandalizing of the Mao passenger vehicles sustaining serious injuries of one passenger and damaging three vehicles by motor-cycle borne persons armed with two wielded iron rods on July 26 at North AOC.
Similar attacks were carried by at Shangapham, Chingmeirong and other part of NH 39.
The TPFM also termed Chief Minister O. Ibobi Singh as “fascist” and his government is “Government by the Meitei, for the Meitei and of the Meitei” for “not taking” measure to prevent such repeated violence attacks.
On 25th July 2010, the three Meitei civil bodies namely United Committee Manipur (UCM), All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) and Transporters and Drivers Council of Manipur (TDCM) have reportedly decided to prevent vehicles from plying along the NH 39.
“These actions of blockage and forcibly preventing free movement of Tribal people by UCM, AMSU and TDCM, Meitei civil societies is totally uncalled for,” the MTF said in a statement.
It may be noted that NH 53 was taken over by Manipur government for maintaining from Boarder Road Organisation (BRO) and the condition of the road has “worsen”.
“Ibobi has the obligation to apply the same yardstick as he did to United Naga Council (UNC) and All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) by declaring wanted tag to the presidents of UNM, AMSU and TDCM,” the organisation demanded.
