Electrification of Mizoram villages in progress: panel

Aizawl: The State Advisory Committee of Joint Electricity Regulation Commission for Mizoram and Manipur was informed that 570 villages have been electrified out of 707 villages in Mizoram.

This was disclosed by the representative of Mizoram Power and Electricity Department in the meeting held in Information Department’s Conference Hall today. The representative also said that the remaining 137 villages and 53 non-census hamlets will also be electrified by 31st March 2011 under Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidvut Yojana (RGGVY).

The Director of Zoram Energy Development Agency (ZEDA), Mr. Lalthanliana also informed the Committee that 9073 Solar Lantern and 6201 Solar Home Lighting System have been distributed to the rural areas. He also said, a number of Solar Water Heating System have been installed successfully in government and private buildings including hospitals.

In addition to these 25 KWP Solar Panel were also installed in TNT Zuangtui, Kulikawn maternity hospital, Aizawl Civil Hospital and Sethawn Centre in Kolasib District. The meeting also discussed the proposed revision of power tariff. The meeting was jointly presided over by the Chairman, Mr. H. Bihari Singh and Mr. C. Hmingthanzuala.
