Doctors defy ESMA in Tripura
From Joydip Chakrabarti
Agartala: The Tripura Medical College (TMC) faculty members staged an one hour cease-work on July 26 braving the threat of ‘Essential Services Maintenance Act’ (ESMA) at the college campus.
However, imposition of ESMA to postpone the agitation has caused discomfort to ruling Leftist Government.
In a statement, the State Health Minister expressed his unhappiness over the imposition of ESMA.
The Congress leaders also criticized the decision. Meanwhile, the TMC authority conveyed to the agitating faculty members ESMA will be used if faculty members go on with their proposed cease-work agitation.
Sources said, the faculty members are demanding to remove anomalies in pay structure along with other demands. Agitating members reportedly threatened to intensify their agitation if their demands are not fulfilled within seven days.
TMC authority did not come up with any statement on the issue.
