NO ENTRY: Naga students have been blocking entry points to Manipur for over 2 moths now.

Since time immemorial Nagas were one people, one culture and one nation; free, sovereign and self contained. The British Empire unsuccessfully tried to conquer the Naga territory. Lord Dalhousie’s policy toward the Nagas was –
“Allow the Nagas to exterminate themselves so as to create a buffer zone of no man’s land between British India and British Burma.” (Delhi Archive).
Sir Robert Raid, a political agent in Manipur, who later on became the Governor of Assam stated –
“The Nagas are not Indian in any sense of the word, neither in origin, nor in language nor in appearance nor in habit nor in outlook.”
Mahatma Gandhiji, the father of the Indian nation categorically told the NNC Leaders on July 19, 1947 during their meeting at Bhangi, New Delhi –
“… I believe in the brotherhood of man, but I do not believe forced unions. If you do not wish to join the Union of India, nobody will force you do that. The Congress will not do that.”
However, India forcefully included the Naga territories in the Indian Union and split them up in different political and administrative areas. On May 13, 1956, Jawaharlal Nehru wrote a letter to Medhi –
“…One of their grievances is that under our Constitution we split them up in different political areas. Whether it is possible or desirable to bring them together again is for us to consider…” (Nehru’s letter No.1116 – PMH/56 New Delhi, May 13, 1956).
Nagas are still separated in the four states of India, namely – Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur and Nagaland.
Nagas in Manipur are unfortunate lot. The Meiteis who are majority have been exploiting the SC/STs and the minorities, and suppressing their rights, forcing them even to learn the Meitei script (Meitei Mayek).
Much has been said and written against the Nagas. Meiteis have conveniently made use of the media – be it the local dailies, the TV or the Radio. They have exploited the Nagas. They have insulted the very people on whose land they traverse, and whose resources they enjoy. The way they have brought shame and dishonour to their own womenfolk by bribing them to strip naked in front of the Assam Rifles at the Kangla Gate in July 15, 2004 shows what extreme means they can employ in order to get what they want.
The Meitei underground organizations siphoned out large sums of the Government money meant for the development and sustenance of the SC/ST and the Minority Muslims to establish a parallel Government with Sajik Tampak as their Head Office. That was the time when the whole state of Manipur went without salaries for months. Many Heads of Deptts. had begun to attend office there. The Meitei UGs had already started to harass the tribals in Chandel and Churachandpur districts. Had it not been for the timely intervention of the Indian Army, they would have succeeded in staging a coup.
Another shocking incident happened in 2006 towards our brother Hmar community; 21 innocent Hmar girls were mass raped in Parbung area, Tipaimukh sub-division Churachandpur district by Manipur Valley based Meitei underground groups (Manipur Peoples’ Army).
And hundreds of innocent villagers lost their lives and over hundreds without limbs over the last 3/4 years due to landmine blasts and booby traps planted by Manipur valley based militants in Chandel, Churachandpur and Tamenglong districts.
There is global movement to ban the use of landmines, as they have become a threat to the humanity. And thousands of innocent people mostly in underdeveloped and developing countries have lost their lives, while thousands were maimed, besides forcing them to become refugees. There are about 26,000 landmine casualties every year in the world and most of them are women and children. There are estimated 110 million unexploded landmines around the world and about 1/5 of it is located in Africa. NSCN signed the International Anti-landmine Treaty, ever first signatory among the insurgencies in North East India.
Inspite of this, India did not withhold anything that was good from the Meiteis: She helped the Meiteis to learn the Hindi language, Hindustani music, imbibe her religion and brought about all-round progress and development in the state. This highly raised the standard of the Meiteis. The Meiteis reciprocated by banning the Hindi language and movies and burned Hindi literature and audio-video cassettes.
It was the Bengali script that has made the Meiteis what they are today. And now the Meiteis have condemned and burned all the books written in Bengali script and even once banned the local dailies for publishing in the Bengali script. They went to the extent of burning the State Central Library. They had another motive in doing this – to destroy the reservoir of knowledge and historical facts of the Nagas and other tribals.
Most of today’s educated and elite Meiteis owe their beginning to the Christian mission schools. They have strange ways of showing their gratitude – by killing the Catholic priests, brothers and sisters, demanding huge sums from the very institutions that had cradled and nursed them in their school days, and burning down the Christian churches, exhuming the dead bodies of Christians from the cemeteries.
Not satisfied with these, they resorted to systematic ethnic cleansing – the victims were Assamese, Bengalis, Biharis, Marwaris, Punjabis, Nepalese, South-Indians and other non-Manipuris. Slogans like ‘Go back foreigners’ rent the air. And those who dared to stay on were forced to pay heavily in order to raise and strengthen the many Meitei underground organizations that had mushroomed. They even killed hundreds of Muslims. By latest threat ‘Quit Notice’ from RPF, dozens of Indians left Imphal valley, leaving behind their huge activities and properties.
On 14 June, 2001, after over 5 decades of fighting between the Nagas and India, a cease-fire between the two was extended to all Nagas inhabited areas. The Meiteis were against this (the only community in the world against a cease-fire)! They wanted the Nagas and the Indians to continue killing each other. They chanted slogans like – ‘There are no Nagas in Manipur’ (because all the Nagas in Manipur are in the four hill districts of Manipur – namely – Chandel, Senapati, Tamenglong and Ukhrul), ‘We oppose extension of cease-fire in Manipur’. They even criticized Christianity – the faith of the tribals in Manipur, calling it ‘foreign’ and ‘American’.
On 18 June, 2001, the Meiteis,
1) burnt the Indian national flag and the constitution and hoisted the Pakhangba flag (7 colour flag).
2) burnt the State Legislative Assembly Hall.
3) ransacked the CM’s bungalow, MLA’s quarters and burnt their vehicles.
4) finally, they made an attempt on the Governor’s life. However, the Governor’s security men foiled their evil plan. 18 rioters were shot.
Now the most interesting part is that the Government of Manipur (Meitei), in her great wisdom has proudly declared those 18 rioters as martyrs and June 18 (that day of looting and arson) as Integrity day and state holiday. It was for this reason that the ANSAM called for the economic blockade of 52 days in 2005. Various Naga organizations are also supporting this just cause.
However, seeing the sufferings and hardships faced by the common people in Manipur, and heeding the appeals of the various organizations like NBCC, AMCO, NESO, AASU, MZP, KSA, etc., and valuing the requests of the Prime Minister and Home Minister of India to the Naga Hoho delegation including UNC and Outer Manipur MP, Mani Charenamai, and responding to the Manipur CM to hold talks on the issue, the NSF and the ANSAM, in consultation with the Naga Hoho and other civil organizations have relaxed the Economic Blockade temporarily on NHs 39 & 53 w.e.f. 12 noon of 11 August, 2005.
At this time again, Manipur Government interestingly imposed the ADC election under the Manipur (Hill Area) District Council Act (Third Amendment) 2008 in the hill districts without the consent of the hills people. This Act and Rules will only invigorate further the dangerous elements of exploitation against the tribals. This Act is literally an act of invasion on the polity, economy, religion, customs and tradition of the hill people of Manipur. Once election is held under this Act, we will be victims of economic and political exploitation and stagnation for another generation to come.
In order to protect and safeguard the younger generations, the Naga student body, the All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM), who is for the students welfare no other option, but to call another economic blockade and started since 12th April, 2010. But still, Manipur government deaf to the public outcry due to acute shortage of essential commodities by blockade. And, instead of solving the problem Manipur government sticks to their decisions with the forces to subjugate the tribal rights.
In the event of the Manipur state government’s failure to resolve the issue, Naga people will be compelled to take appropriate course of action for which the state government of Manipur will be held responsible for any unwarranted consequences.

Mr.Kamei, there is a proverb that instead of looking back,we should look forward. Our State is among the least developed state in India. Why dont we all join our hands and find out ways and means on how to make our state the best among other state, instead of fighting among ourselves. Manipur state is known for contributing good Sport personal but maximum are from Valley. Why dont you be the leader from the hill and try to excel in some trade or the other, so that we all will be proud that our brothers and sisters from the Hill are also equally good like any other Indian. Beleive me if you keep engaging yourself in some good work you wont have time to think of giving problem to others . Like there is a saying "Idle hands and Mind are the devil's workshop". So those students who are not at all good in studies and does not want to study will be involving in all these inhuman way of calling blockade and at last join hands with terrorist group. So Mr. kamei be a busy person . Only then you can compete with other Indian and dont poke your nose to other people's business.

But one should not lose sight that they are the same MLAs who have recommended and insisted the Government to pursue the Election process by signing in black and white earlier. The 7 MLAs should be true parliamentarian acknowledging the ethics that Assembly is not a fish market where anybody can lash out whatever comes to their cheating tongue. Now even if the 7 MLAs are against the ADC Election, 13 hills tribal are voting in favour of the ADC election in the 20 members Hill Area Committee body. Therefore, conduct of election is democratically granted. there is no meitai govt in manipur !!!!think and study before you speak my frn.

Mr. Kamei's name suggests that he is a Kabui. His article, like many articles written by other people of his ilk, specially Tangkhuls is written with malice and hatred towards the Meiteis. What I cannot understand is why Mr. Kamei is so desperate in converting himself to a Naga when we all know so well that he will never be considered a Naga by his "brothers" from across the border. The Tangkhuls also know that they can never be allowed to become a Naga by the Nagas of Nagaland. They will always be considered "outsiders" and third-class citizens by the Nagas. The only unique thing about the oft-repeated "unique history of the Nagas" is that their "history" started with Mr. Muivah and hopefully end with his end. They have been our neighbours "since time immemorial". But we sure do pity the Tangkhuls, Maos and Kabuis. Why don't they come to their senses that they are not Nagas?
The most unique thing about "unique history of the Nagas" is that Mr. Muivah woke up one fine morning and started believing that Tangkhuls were Nagas or that there were Nagas scattered in Manipur. How unique Indeed! The unique history of Nagas is also that it has nothing to do with the original Nagas of Nagaland. The Nagas had nothing in common with Tangkhuls of Manipur "since time immemorial". Their "history" is also unique because they are outcasts in Nagaland. But why is a Kabui like Mr. Kamei joining the bandwagon? Just because he cannot compete with the Meiteis?
Peace can never return to Manipur so long as New Delhi doesn't realise that there are no Nagas in Manipur. The Indian government should make Mr. Muivah come to his senses that there are no Nagas scattered in Manipur. Why are they hesitant to tell him that? Mr. Kamei should know that people like him are playing into the hands of the Indian government. There was a sinister plan in giving Mr. Miuvah a go-ahead in his futile attempt to gatecrash into Manipur. And also in allowing the blockade of Highways by Tangkhul students to continue for more than two months. It was a test by fire for the people of Manipur because New Delhi wanted to test the resilience of the people of Manipur. They thought that people would revolt against the Ibobi government because of the prolonged blockade. But instead, surprisingly, what they saw was the support given by the people to Manipur government and the already notorious Manipur police. People were ready to endure the extreme hardships as long as Mr. Muivah is not allowed to set his foot on Manipur soil. This indeed was the last of the many political gimmicks by Mr. Muivah. Mr. Kamei is proving to the world how stupid he is. Does he not realise that the internet can be accessed by every person on this planet? What was the need to write a long pack of outrageous lies? And he is said to be an analyst (???) from Senapati!
Hi peepan, why are you guys worried about this poor haos? In other ADC the CEO is equivalent a cabinet minister. In the Manipur (hill areas) District Council (not ADC for your information), the Chairman will have the rank below that of the chairman of a zilla parishad. The elected/selected peepan/caldidate will be given power to allocate lands of the Houthus for any purpose in the name of development and to set apart any lands to be used for wild life sanctuary, etc. etc. without consulting the villagers! They can also choose any one as the chiefs of the village without any process of consulting the villagers. This is a master stroke of our king becoz anyone who does not toe our line will not be given chieftainship and the chiefs hence would not oppose our grabbing of lands and resources! And that is why i call the selected ones as our grey hounds becuase if you throw a crumb of bread or bones, they will do anything in our interests! I really really like Ibobi singh becuase of him we will get enough lands from the Hous and it can be done as it was already done in 14 villages in Sadar Hills, 89 villages under CCPUR, and 14 villages in Khoupum valley. These haos can not produce any patta documents and it means we gain all the non-patta lands for Meiteis’ interests! Because MLR and MLR act, 1960 once applied as in the case of the villages mentioned above, we have no more worries about scarcity of lands. If anybody opposes our move, Ibobi has the UGs under him to silence anyone who dare challenge!!, Otherwise, how do we develop ourselves and fulfill our greed for lands? Ibobi is the Hero. See poor haos control only the subject of education in the District council…and with Ibobi’s wisdom we have got 552 teacher posts for Meiteis…it is such a good job bcoz for generations, we will benefit. Do not worry the Hous can not compete us in giving bribe!!! when they can pay only 4-5 lakhs, our Meiteis can pay 7-10 lakhs because we had looted the state for several years now but without Ibobi’s blessings, we will not have got this much of teacher posts in the district council bcoz it was meant exclusively for the tribes…but Ibobi our savoiur is truly clever…so he did this thing before the election lest the elected members may oppose the manipulations and ask for their own quota…Uncle Ibobi is our savoiur…Do not criticise him plizzzzzz…peepan, see the UGs are happy with him…the public are happy with him…even Sonia seems to be happy with him….our real hero is IBOBI Singh…singh is king!! This has got be the joke of the year. Mr. Kamei says Meiteis burnt down the State Central Library to "destroy the reservoir of knowledge and historical facts of the Nagas". If he meant many important historical books pertaining to the Nagas of Nagaland were lost in the fire, he is partly correct because many books were lost indeed. But I can assure him that no historical materials about the Tangkhuls were lost, simply because their "history" is safe in the head of Mr. Muivah. He alone knows the unique history of the Tangkhuls and he has been telling their outlandishly unique history to the world through the best medium he knows…the oral tradition!!

The actual fact is nagas shouted for Unity because they were never one. They claim to have existed as independent village republics. But the question is how these villages independent of one another existed as a nation. This is perhaps the BIGGEST RIDDLE OF THE CENTURY.
Perhaps these different tribes existed as a nation by means of HEAD HUNTING.
When the british started administering them, they came across several tribes of varying name, culture, dialects each unique from the other tribe.
Since the british cannot remember the names of several independent tribes except for a few anthropologist who were surprised sucha as race exist even during those times, they just generalise the naked primitive hillmen as nagas meaning 'naked hillmen'.
After the british left india, their territory was automatically merged with Indian Union and so is the case with burmese side. This is the time when nagas realise the need for a common administration under one administrative umbrella which led to the formation of NAGA CLUB encouraged by british. NNC was the outcome of thenaga club.
Then, again the nagas claim the British divided their territory. Instead of being grateful for all the little bit of homogeneity the british have given them, this is how the nagas shows their gratefulness. This is tantamount to tangkhuls living at manipur valley out of meitie generosity and plotting against meiteis.
In 1963, Tuensang district of NEFA(Arunachal Pradesh) was torn away and merged with Patkoi Hills range to formed nagaland State.
The funny thing is the so called one naga speaks two different languages as lingua franc a. Nagaland nagas speaks nagamese as common language whereas manipuri nagas speaks manipuri language to communicate among the different tribes of manipuri naga. For example, a tangkhul speaks in manipuri to a Mao.
Muivah has already met all the meaningful leaders from Manipur at Hebron Camp on 21st March and interacted with them. RS Jassalr also attended his hearing at Hebron on 21st March.

About three years ago, when Ex-M.P Mani Charanamei, NSCN (I-M)'s Man-Friday, in the Indian Parliament went to Ukhrul town and addressed a public meeting, he spoke in English, because he did not like to speak in Manipuri. The general public of Ukhrul, (Mr. Muivah's district) particularly old men and women, and the illiterate peoples, became restive since they did not understand English.
Mani Charanamei MP, who was a Conservator of Forest in Imphal, had perfect knowledge of Manipuri language, and he was thus compelled by circumstances to speak in Manipuri, that is Meiteilon, which became the official language in the Manipur State Assembly and in all Government offices of Manipur State as resolved by the State Assembly, when Yangmaso Shaiza, a Tangkhul was Chief Minister. So, I am wondering if Mr Thuingaleng Muivah will speak in Tangkhul language or in English or in Manipuri when he visits Tamenelong District or Churachandpur District or Sadar Hills District or even Senapati District, where the majority of the public are illiterate.
If one look at the so called map of nagalim, even parts of churachandpur districts are also included. Forget about sadar hills, Chandel district, kuki inhabited areas of Ukhrul and Tamenglong districts, the arrogance of the nagas have spread far and wide.
With a mere 30% naga population at North Cachar, nagas claim Dima Hasao as nagalim. Where are your senses?? Have you not wake up after North Cachar has been renemed as Dima Hasoa??
Mr. Kamei has gone too far by alleging that womenfolk who stripped naked in front of the Assam Rifles at the Kangla Gate in July 15, 2004 were bribed. Perhaps it is their failure to protest even when 859 naga women of a single village were raped by Indian Army after the imposition of AFSPA when a few nagas burnt tyres at nagaland. The sheer intensity of the wave of protest from meiteis for the rape & murder of a single woman was no less than THE GREAT JUNE 18 UPRISING.
Mr. kamei, money meant for the development and sustenance of the SC/ST and the Minority Muslims and money meant for payment of salary comes under two different heads:- PLAN and NON-PLAN. Dont give the wrong impression that money for payment of salary was siphoned off. Rather it is your own NSCN & naga MLAs who have siphoned off development money meant for the welfare of nagas. The truth is for all to see, every tangkhul ministers, MLAs, officers have purchased acres of land at Imphal and build palatial houses at the cost of development money meant for people like Kamei here. Atleast Meitei underground have built Bridges and Roads at Sajik Tampak, has one ever heard NSCN-IM of building Bridge or Road, Nope. Extortions, Highway lootings, Harassmanents, Rapes are synonmous with NSCN-IM.
The so called landmines are planted by Assam Rifles to prevent militants from mounting attacks against their camps.
It is laughable that Kamei has claimed Bengali Script for the progress of meiteis. I would like to ask Kamei. is it because of bengali script that meities are doing well in the field of sports, viz., football, boxing, Wushu, taekwondo, weight lifting, Saepak takraw,…? Is it because of Bengali script the meiteis are inborn martial artist or because of 'Thang Ta'? Is it because of Bengali script that meities are doing well in the field of technical education? Come dont show true colour to the entire world. Nagas are increasing seen in bad light after the recent record breaking economic blockade, increasing seen as HIGHWAY LOOTERS.. Dont be jealous of Meitei achievements. You also can prosper if you seek our help.
The burning down of State Central Library is said to be another “Puya Mei thaba” or “burning of Manuscripts”. Mr. Kamei did you mean to say Tangkhul oral history or rather Mao oral history were recorded in audio cassettes and stored in State Central Library. Mr. Kamei, are you claiming meitei written history as yours?? Mr. Kamei, naga history is based on oral tradition. Whatever little history of the nagas is recorded in the written history of Ahoms and Manipuri history. They are mostly military expeditions to collect tax which clearly shows where you lived and how you were administered.
Its better to shout about your ORAL HISTORY than contradict yourself.
Here again, Kamei seems to suggest Meitei elite who studied in Christian Mission Schools have strange ways of showing their gratitude – by killing the Catholic priests, brothers and sisters, demanding huge sums from the very institutions which is a totally false statement. Kamei again charged Meitei elite of burning down the Christian churches, exhuming the dead bodies of Christians from the cemeteries.
For the record No Meitei has ever burnt down a church rather it is people from Kamei’s tribe(if he is not from other tribe) who follows Sanamahi Religion and prevents indigenous Kabui tribes from being seduced to convert to Christianity sometimes even with forced by guardians of NAGALAND FOR CHRIST. It is a shame that NSCN-IM has resorted to converting peaceful Buddhist monks at Arunachal to Christians forcibly with the use of AKs. NSCN-K has even went to the extent of declaring NSCM-IM as JEHADIS/CHRISTIAN TALIBANS.
Please don’t be a namesake Christian, practice christianity. Christianity does not spread hatred of neighbours.
The only solution for peace in Manipur is we should divide ourselves as Kukiland/Zalen'ngam, Kangleipak and Nagaland.

i like mangboi's view. i m a meitei. imagine a kangleipak meant only for the meiteis. we cud become ST and enjoy all the gains, tax free world. our land maybe small but look at the benifits we would enjoy. and wen the other communities comes to the new kangleipak, we can enjoy the benefits from different sectors like health, education, infrastructure to name a few by collecting taxes.
the idea of united manipur is dull, plus the tribals dont support this, its like dont like running after a girl who doesnot love you, its useless…..most importantly its hindering meitei's socio-political-economic development
and get this its the tribals that are living in the valley, meiteis dont live in the hills…though meiteis will also suffer , tribals esp. tangkhuls will be the bigger sufferer here.
i was a fierce supporter of the Naga and tribal cause until the moment i started reading this trash. if this is what every naga believes, then it's pure insanity. the manipuri muslims are Meiteis!!! there are Meitei hindus (majority), Meitei Christians (like me), Meitei Sanamahis (original religion) and Meitei Pangals (muslims)… hindi speaking people are served quit notice by the Meiteis is another blatant lie when 28% of the valley population are the 'mainland' indians whom we call mayaangs. these mayaangs are the group of people who dominate the meiteis and nagas alike in business. how can a community serve quit notice on another indian community/race?
