Football giants differ over ban on vuvuzela

Submitted by on June 14, 2010 – 8:06 pmOne Comment | 78 views

THE SOUND OF NOISE? A man blows the vuvuzela, a 'traditional' instrument which is making more sound than the sound of a football in the on-going World Cup matches in South Africa.

Football fans across the globe are divided over the call for banning the vuvuzelas during World Cup matches.

The issue took an interesting turn on Monday when FIFA president Joseph Blatter joined the on-going love-hate debate over the  saying the plastic trumpets should not be banned.

“To answer all your messages (regarding) the vuvuzelas. I have always said that Africa has a different rhythm, a different sound,” Blatter said through his twitter feed SeppBlatter.

“I don’t see banning the music traditions of fans in their own country. Would you want to see a ban on the fan traditions in your country?”

The vuvuzelas have been the hottest subject of debate off the pitch at the 2010 World Cup. Many teams and fans have complained about the volume of the annoying noise-makers while local fans continue to passionately blow into their vuvuzelas.

Meanwhile, spokesman for the World Cup organising committee Rich Mkhondo supporting the use the instrument which many considered “annoying” said, “Vuvuzelas are here to stay and will never be banned.”

Earlier organising committee chief Danny Jordaan had told the BBC that he had not ruled out banning the most talked about instrument in this World Cup.

These developments clearly shows that fans are divided, so are the organising members.
