Book on industrialisation in Mizoram released

Aizawl: Mizoram governor Pu Lt. Gen. (Rtd) M.M.Lakhera released a book titled “Industrialisation in Mizoram – Problems and Prospects” written by Dr. Baharul Islam Laskar, at I&PR Conference Hall on June 21, official release said.

Speaking at the occasion, the Governor said that no state can develop just by the word “Development” and expressed his concern about the slow progress of industrial development in the state despite having enough scope for development in the state. He posed a question “Why our graduate students failed to get into entrepreneurship ?” and said that attitudinal change is needed as there is no synergy between education and development in Mizoram, and quality education should impart proper knowledge and give a better life to the citizens.

The Governor also reiterated the need to create a good environment which is conducive for development in the State and the need to identify and harness individual talents and emphasised that everyone should be given adequate opportunity to develop his talent and parents should try to identify the hidden talents in their children by spending more quality time with them, and should refrain from forcing their will through their children against their wishes.

Lauding the author for his exemplary work, the Governor urged the experts and others present to take up a number of studies and research on various problems faced by the society and how to develop from there, he also said that Research should not be done just to get a Doctorate Degree and the research must percolate down to the Mass and should be beneficial to them.

To conclude his speech, the Governor said that we are making headway but we need to increase our pace, to move faster to catch up with others, and in order to do this we have the power and all we need is more desire and hunger to make our state worthy to be a household name in the country.

Dr. Baharul Islam Laskar is presently working as Reader and Head in the Department of Economics, Government Aizawl West College and is actively engaged in teaching and research work. The book is also a result of his strenuous research on the status of Industries in Mizoram, it has an in-depth analysis about the growth and  development of industries in the state. It examines the problems faced by the entrepreneurs and workers in the industrial sector of the state and suggests suitable neasures for industrial development in the state. The book has been published by New Central Book Agency, Kolkata costed Rs. 385/- local price.

The Book release fuction was chaired by  Dr. Sangkima, Principal, Government Aizawl West College and the Keynote address was delivered by Professor A.K.Agarwal, Department of Economics, Mizoram University and the Book was reviewed by Professor Lianzela, Dean, SEMIS Mizoram University. The programme concluded with Vote of Thanks from the author Dr. Baharul Islam Laskar.
