Mizoram Chief Secretay Pu Vanhela Pachuau

Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Secretary Pu Vanhela Pachuau has asked Mizo Student Union (MSU) leaders not to act in “coercive manner” with regards to the ongoing recruitment to the Mizoram university.

The chief secretary conveyed this message to MSU leaders during a meeting held in his office which was attended by the representatives of Mizoram University and Mizo Students Union.

Pu Pachuau also expressed view that the on going recruitment of teachers in Mizoram University is to be conducted in line with the existing norms and regulations of the University.

The Registrar of Mizoram University, Mr. Benjamin apprised the Chief Secretary of the on going recruitment for about 100 posts including Associate and Assistant Professors as per the regulations laid down by the University Grant Commission.

He also informed the meeting that selection of good teacher for the University is par amount importance for the students who are expected to become valuable assets of the society. He also brushed aside the view that son of the soil should get special favour by granting concession of treatment. The meeting was attended among others by the Home Commissioner, Pu Lalmalsawma, Secretary to Chief Minister, Pu LR Thanga and other officials.

In an exclusive interview with ZONET, the MZU Registrar, Mr. Benjamin said, the recruitment for teachers in the University and other posts is being conducted in the fairest manner. Screening is also unavoidable when there are many applicants for one post and the procedure of screening is short listing the candidates in accordance with their academic records and ranking. The Registrar said, there are some posts for which higher qualifications and good academic records are required for which suitable local applicants are not available.

Meanwhile, Mizo Student Union has alleged that glaring violation of the 9 point Memorandum of Understanding signed between MSU and University Authority in September last year is being noticed in the on going recruitment for teachers in Mizoram University.

MSU General Secretary Mr. Zodinpuia said, the MSU leaders are contemplating the line of action to be taken in this regard.

Meanwhile security arrangement in the University Campus is strengthened by deploying larger number of policemen.
