Census operation begins in Mizoram

Aizawl: Census 2011 operation began in Mizoram on May 15 morning.
The first persons enumerated by the Census Officials were the Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla and wife Pi Lalriliani.
The enumerators proceeded to the residence of the Chief Secretary Pu Vanhela Pachuau for recording their particulars.
Along with Mizoram, the census operation is taken up from today in Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan and Bihar. 2011 census covering the entire country is being taken up in two phases.
The first phase starting from April is to be concluded by September this year which will take up houselisting, housing census and national population register. The second phase starting from 9th February to the 28th February next year will be devoted for population enumeration.
With the commencement of census operation in Mizoram, the Chief Minister, Mr. Lal Thanhawla asked the people to cooperate the census officials and said that the data and informations about the people recorded in the census are essential data for planning of programmes for development. He also said that the informations derived by the enumerators from the citizens will be kept secret as per the instruction in Census Act 1948.
