Aizawl, March 20, 2010: In the first of its kind in Mizoram, students from four schools showcased their creative talents during the ‘Commercial Garments Designing and Making Fashion Show-cum-Exhibition’ here at the YMA Hall in Chanmari on March 18.

The SCERT had introduced ”Commercial Garment Designing and Making” as a vocational course in the 10+2 standard in 2008, and four schools, namely Modern English Higher Secondary School, Mamawii Higher Secondary School, Lena Memorial School and Zemabawk Higher Secondary School, along with Champhai and Lunglei Higher Secondary schools have adopted them as additional courses.

After a short inaugural speech by Headmaster of Modern English Higher Secondary School, Mr. PC Lianhmingthanga, the first batch from each school that had picked their own theme put up an impressive show to the delight of the audience.

“All the models who adorned the clothes were fresh faces and this made it very entertaining and interesting show,” said one of the people who attended the unique event.

It may be mentioned that the young designers had been working for the last two years to finally present their creativity. The schoolchildren-designers also walked the ramp with their models at the end of each show.

“This is just a small start, but definitely a very promising one to uncover hidden talent that lies within the Mizo youths,” according to organisers.
