Centre approves roadmap for repatriation of Bru refugees

Aizawl, March 31, 2010 (Zonet):Mizoram Home Minister Mr. R. Lalzirliana informed the state Assembly on March 29 that the roadmap for repatriation of Bru refugees in Tripura camps has been accepted in principle by Union Home Ministry.
In reply to Zoram Nationalist Party member Mr. K. Liantlinga, the Home Minister said, the Centre has sanctioned 25 crore and 87 lakh rupees to meet expenses of repatriation of the Bru refugees and there is nothing released so far by the Centre.
Replying to the supplementaries, the Home Minister also said that some of the demands of the Bru refugees cannot be accepted by the state government as their demands included rehabilitation of not less than 500 families in a single village and protection by Central paramilitary force.
He also said that the earlier initiative taken for their repatriation had flopped because of gruesome incident in Bungthuam village.
