Aizawl, Dec 26, 2009: All across the state, the message on Christmas was of love, peace, unity and communal harmony as the Mizos marked one of their most awaited religious festivals, according to reports coming from various districts.

Christmas carols and bonfires programme were organized since mid-December in this beautiful hill state. And on mid-night of December 24 a large number of people thronged various churches to offer mass prayers.

Earlier, the state government had sought the help of the Young Mizo Association to keep a check on law and order problem arising out of drunken driving and other unwanted social activities. So far, there has been no reports of any untoward incidents from any of the district headquarters.

“Christmas is a major festival in Mizoram and there are many big churches with arge followers. And, the main theme of this years’ Christmas is love and communal harmony,”  a Presbyterian church leader said.

Churches in Aizawl city  donned  bright lights and the spirit of the festival was clearly visible with the number of parties and celebrations, according to our sources.

Many churches have taken the two-day Christmas celebration norm. “Celebrations will continue for the second day today with the same fervor and spirit,” says Pi Pari, elated at the prospect of having to spend the first Christmas with all her grandchildren, who had come from New Delhi, Bangalore and Kolkata.
