Indefinite hunger strike to go on, says Union leader
AIZAWL, DEC 31, 2009 (Zonet): The state government is yet to find a solution to the striking trade union members’ demands for implementation of Minimum Wage Board’s recommendations.
Representatives of the Centre of Indian Trade Union, Mizoram (CITUM) met Labour and Employment Minister, Pu Lalrinliana Sailo on December 29 and conveyed their demands to him.
The union leaders are demanding implementation of Rastrya Swastha Bhima Yojana (RSBY) and re-instatement of retrenched MR labourers.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, CITUM adviser, Pu H. Lalnunfima said, they were happy with the Minister’s concern over their demands but stopped short to say that they were again disappointed with the government’s refusal for reinstatement of the retrenched labourers and skilled labourers from the Public Works Department.
In reply to a question, the Union adviser said that the fasting CITUM leaders will continue their indefinite hunger strike till satisfactory response is received from the government.
“T B C Ralliana has been admitted to Aizawl Civil Hospital as his health condition has worsened,” he said, adding that two persons in Aizawl and another in Darlawn have been admitted to hospitals.
